We at St John's Church are participants in the East Ayrshire Churches Homelessness Action (EACHa) along with churches of various denominations.
This charity (Scottish Charity No SC 036849) was set up in 2005 with the support of Scottish Churches Housing Action and aims to help those who present as homeless within East Ayrshire. By giving tangible help in the form of hygiene packs for adults and activity packs for children, EACHa aims to put faith into action. Further information can be found at http://www.eacha.co.uk
How can you help?
Toiletries for the hygiene packs and activity toys for the children's packs should be brought to St John's and deposited in the appropriate box in the vestibule from where they will be taken to Laigh West High Kirk for compiling into hygiene packs. A printed list, showing the suggested items can be picked up in the church vestibule.
Opportunities for volunteering
Community friends, the befriending service of EACHa would like to hear from anyone interested in joining the rota to help at the Wednesday afternoon drop-in sessions for homeless and those at risk of homelessness. You can help by serving the teas and coffees, or just chatting to those who come along. Male volunteers are especially welcome. If you can spare a couple of hours each month, and would like to learn more, contact Janice Grant, firstname.lastname@example.org. We would also be glad to hear of anyone who would like to make up the hygiene packs on one morning each fortnight.
